Please join us for an evening of networking
at the first meeting of the UC Santa Cruz
Entrepreneurship and Business Group, a new association of UCSC alumni and
friends who live and work in the Silicon Valley. The group's aim is to connect
fellow alums with business leaders, which can lead to business connections,
employment, or investment opportunities.
Our inaugural event features Dan Heller (College Eight ’85), the new executive director of UCSC's Center
for Entrepreneurship, and the CEO of the non-profit "Startup
Lab." These two entities work
together to streamline tech-transfer of IP from UCSC into new ventures. Mr. Heller will explain the center
operations, the tech-transfer process, and the opportunities available for
those who want to be CEOs of these startups.
Attendees will also be invited to an event on campus at the end of June,
where they can meet the inventors who will be presenting their IP in
greater detail. Most inventions have
been patented and are (or near) ready for business plan formation and
execution. Opportunities range across all the sciences, including
computer science (games, networking, apps, and storage), computer
engineering, robotics, physics, chemistry, adaptive optics, life
sciences, genomics, informatics, and green-tech.
Light refreshments will be served.

UCSC Entrepreneurship & Business Group
The
UCSC Entrepreneurship & Business Group (EBG) was formed in 2011 to
provide UCSC alumni with a structured organization that provides support
for their career advancement by:
- Organizing networking events for alumni to make connections in their career fields;
- Supporting and providing online networking opportunities for alumni;
- Supporting the creation of internship opportunities for UCSC students at members’ companies;
- Providing
news of events on and off campus that would give members opportunities
to meet the top upcoming students in their field;
- Providing
a forum for people to ask questions of the group and share information
about upcoming events of interest, such as conferences and local groups
related to our mission.
